Seminar topics can be assigned throughout the year. For obtaining a seminar topic please send an email to Prof. Kunz.
Winter Semester 2019: Hardware Security
Processor hardware (HW) was considered a performant and reliable root-of-trust until a new class of side channel attacks became known in January 2018 under the names of Spectre and Meltdown. New alertness has spread across the scientific communities in computer architecture, System-on-Chip (SoC) design, operating systems (OS) and software (SW) development as well as in the general public, as is attested by headlines in the media world-wide.
This seminar will focus on various aspects of HW security and related topics in firmware and software security. We study different classes of HW vulnerabilities as well as possible design corrections both at the hardware and at the software level.
